How to Fish Leeches – Where to Find All 5 on Island 2
Updated Aug 23, 2026 · locations from Steam Community launch-day discussions and community guides (How to Fish Game Wiki, Aug 21, 2026 snapshot); quest chain cross-checked with our island progression guide
Where do you find leeches in How to Fish? They are ground pickups on the second island, near the farmer-type quest giver — not fish you hook and not boss drops. The quest asks for five; collect them, return to the farmer, and the leech-bait chain triggers the Giant Piranha fight.
Leech locations: walk the floor, not the water
The leeches sit on the ground of Island 2. Steam discussions repeatedly point to the same answer: scan the island floor and bring five back to the farmer-type NPC. The models are small and the island is visually busy, so:
- Lower your view toward the ground — they are easy to miss at normal camera height.
- Walk the usable paths and check edges around vegetation, structures and the NPC's area.
- Search systematically. Running the same center path can miss objects near the perimeter.
A clean collection route
- Activate the farmer's request first — talk to the NPC before collecting so the objective and item count are clear.
- Start at the NPC and sweep outward. Walk one full perimeter instead of zig-zagging randomly.
- Scan the ground near props and vegetation with the camera low enough to distinguish small pickups.
- Check your count after each pickup. The intended total is five.
- Return directly to the farmer. Do not turn the leeches into unrelated bait or sell quest items while the request is active.
What if only two leeches spawned?
This is a known launch-day issue, not a hidden mechanic. Multiple players report seeing only two leeches, and boating away and returning did not reliably respawn them — no repeatable fix was established at the time of writing.
- First, do one complete slow perimeter sweep and confirm the other pickups are not hidden in vegetation.
- If the count still stops below five, treat it as a session or spawn problem rather than an undiscovered fishing trick.
- Protect your current quest items and check current Steam discussions or developer announcements before spending another long loop on the same route.
- Restarting a session is worth trying if you are comfortable doing so, but it is not a guaranteed solution.
A useful bug report includes: solo or co-op, how many leeches appeared, whether the quest was active before entering the island, and whether any player already collected one.
Why leeches matter: the Piranha chain & Bean
The leeches are not just a side errand — they are the trigger for the Giant Piranha fight, which unlocks Island 3. See the island progression guide for the full chain and the boss guide for the fight itself.
They are also a required step in the Bean speedrun route (finish the game within one hour): the Island 2 leech quest and Giant Piranha are on the critical path, so a fast, clean leech collection matters for the timer.
What NOT to do
- Do not search real-world water or fishing spots — these are world pickups in the game, not a fishing mechanic.
- Do not follow Roblox Fisch or Fish It leech guides — their mechanics are unrelated.
- Do not assume sailing away forces a respawn — players specifically report that it may not.
- Do not trust a "secret sixth location" without a clear game-specific screenshot or repeatable route.
